This PCB is an add on PCB for the D072 but can also be used with any other 5 Volt microcontroller board. The double sided PCB contains a) a switching power supply for an (almost) loss less conversion from 12 to 5 Volt (a regular linear voltage regulator would have to burn (12 Volt - 5 Volt) x 0.1A = 700mW which is a lot of heat. This switching power supply will not burn the unused energy to heat like a usual 780x regulator. b) a surge protection (up to 40 Ampere) against peak pulse and load dump (car voltage line can have pulses from 80 Volt !). The protection complies to ISO / DTR 7637 The board allows power input from 9 to 18 Volt and converts it to 5 Volt (+- 5%). Maximum output 100mA. The PCB is double sides and has free space for one PC82C250 CAN Transceiver (if you want to add one, for our D072 this is not needed as it comes with a CAN transceiver if you order the AT90CAN128 controller). The PCB can easily be added to our D072 as a piggy back to the backside of the switch area. D072 and P002 are offering mounting pads.
